EXPERIENCE God's Grace with the women in your church...

This is the participant guide for a relational, interactive and learner based study on Grace. Each session involves some kind of food....for week 1 think Cracker Jacks and chocolate truffles!! Week 1 focuses on the story of the Prodigal Son. During the study ladies will share answers to questions that will get them thinking and lead them into deeper relationship with one another and mostimportantly with God. The application section makes the lesson personal and leads to daily application throughout the days and weeks ahead. Get ready to experience God's grace with the women in your church!

This Bible study is designed to bring woment together and experience the greatness of God's grace. You won't just read about or hear about the lesson, but you will also taste, feel, smell and live out the sessions each week! I am a hands-on learner, and these activities helped me to beter understand the concepts in real-life ways. What an easy way to invite friends, too-chocolate is a universal LOVE language, right? ;)

About the Author
Frederick C. Hatfield, MSS, PhD, is Co-founder and President of the ISSA. Dr. Hatfield, (aka "Dr. Squat") won the World Championships three times in the sport of powerlifting, and performed a competitive squat with 1014 pounds at a body weight of 255 pounds (more weight than anyone in history had ever lifted in competition). Dr. Hatfield's former positions include an assistant professorship at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Senior Vice President and Director of Research and Development for Weider Health and Fitness, Incorporated. Dr. Hatfield was honored by Southern Connecticut State University when they presented him with the 1991 Alumni Citation Award. He has written over 70 books (including several best-sellers) and hundreds of articles in the general areas of sports training, fitness, bodybuilding, and performance nutrition. He has been coach and training consultant for several world-ranked and professional athletes, sports governing bodies and professional teams worldwide. Dr. Hatfield qualified for the 1998 World Championships in Olympic Lifting and competed in the Masters Division.

I was a competitive powerlifter in college (never on the sauce), setting state records in the State of Alabama in the early to mid 1980's. I and my fellow powerlifters used this book as our primary source for increasing our individual lifts as well as our totals. Just looking at it today made me flash back to a time in my life when my strength was greatest.

An absolute must for the powerlifter

Along with John Kuc's "Kuc Speaks" this is one book on powerlifting that you must read. Written in the early 80's it has remained one of the most informative books on the subject of powerlifting ever written. Eastern bloc lifters who now dominate the sport consider this their Bible. Dr. Squat has talked of updating it, but when taken together with his powerlifting manual on his website at [...], you have a complete system for putting up champion caliber totals.

Without a good professor, this book is just awful

I am using this book as a Georgia Tech Aerospace Engineering Dynamics requirement, and that is the only reason. The content is just awful. Nothing is explained. Each chapter has 4-5 examples of various problems and 2-3 pages of actual content writing, then just a ton of problems to work on. Avoid if you can and if needed, just hope for a great professor.

Not an "introduction" to the subject

This was my textbook for my sophomore course in dynamics back in 1985. Don't let the really cute little cartoon characters in the book fool you -- it was not an easy book to learn from. The author's concept, use and emphasis on reference frames is good, but the notation is confusing and very much unlike most other elementary texts on dynamics. I remember I kept reading the title of the book over & over, particularly, the phrase "An Introduction to Dynamics" -- with the emphasis here being on the word "Introduction." There is nothing introductory about this text and it would be better off titled as a text on Intermediate Dynamics. Ironically, when I got to my junior year a different professor used the same text for the intermediate dynamics course, which seemed more fitting to me. Even so, if you are looking for a text on intermediate dynamics I would recommend looking at some other titles, like Greenwood -- a true classic.

This book was so poorly done!

I was utterly disappointed with this textbook. The explanations were meager, at best, and did not help me understand the book. In my opinion, A very good textbook is one in which the student is virtually able to "teach him/herself" the material in the book without a professor. This book was apparently not written for that. Not only were explanations lacking, but derivations were hard to follow (skipped too many steps),.. Example problems existed but they were no help whatsoever for the extremely difficult problems at the end of each chapter. Worthless investment. I am trying to find a dynamics book that I can actually follow.

Terrific

This book is not the first of its kind. Audrey Miller wrote the first one-"Writing Reaction Mechanisms in Organic Chemistry". Miller used a renovating approch to treat organic reaction mechanisms. Mechanisms are not a bunch of random knowledges to be memorized any more. They can be analyzed and mastered.
However Grossman did a terrific job writing this book. It covers more material than Miller's. Both books are easy to read. Keys to answers of this book can be downloaded from internet(over 200 pages).
This book is great for graduate student who's struggling on his/her cumes, for industrial organic chemist who wants to have a thorough review of organic mechanism. Great value for the money.

The reason this book is good is because it will help you actually learn how to do organic chemistry instead of just memorizing reactions and their mechanisms. This book answers "WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?". A very important book for the graduate student in organic chemistry.

It doesn't seem appropriate as a textbook, but provides a wealth of information to help students develop their mechanistic problem-solving skills. As a professor at a research university, I have recommended it to all the members of my group.

Peter Lessler is an expert-level graduate of Col. Jeff Cooper's General Pistol 250 and Rifle 270 courses. He is also a ranked IPSC/USPSA competitor, a Project Appleseed Rifle Marksmanship instructor, and an NRA High Power Rifle competitor. He has previously authored Gun Digest Shooter's Guide to Rifle Marksmanship.

Great book - very specific instructions for improvement

I'm a novice shooter, new to handguns this year and new to the area where I live so I don't have any friends to shoot with or to learn from. I own a .40 GLOCK and a 9mm GLOCK. I have been struggling to get better than 65% of my shots in an 8x10" group. I bought this book, studied the first 1/3 so far. Yesterday I shot 140 rounds and put 94% of them in that 8x10" group; 65% were in a 4x6" area.

Based on the information in this book I modified my stance slightly, changed by grip quite a bit and learned how to 'follow-through' on my shots. (Do you know what 'follow-through' means for handgun shooting? I watched a lot of videos and read lots of boards, heard lots of advise about how important it is, never understood what it was until I got this book.)

As an aside, on August 4 I determined that I needed a better resource for learning how to shoot. I said to myself "I wonder if Gun Digest has any books on handgun marksmanship" and went to Amazon. Look at the publication date. :)

excellent

Great book, very insightful.
Very knowledgeable author with lots of experience.
Able to list the problems most of us have in accurate shooting
and states clearly what the solution is. Doesn't harp on more practice is the answer.
In fact states that practicing wrong only ingrains the bad habits.
I felt he was able to tell me what I've been doing wrong and how to correct it.
I've read a dozen books on the subject,
this book and one by Erik Lawrence are the two best I've read.

Only useful for 39 million handgun owners

Plenty of people seem willing to offer opinions on how best to use firearms but not all those opinions are worth considering. Talk to masters of any art and they will emphasize learning and perfecting fundamentals. While novices are distracted obsessing over minutia, masters focus on those fundamentals yielding the best return for superior results. Part of becoming highly skilled is learning where to focus effort and what is less important.

Peter Lessler offers a good insights on what's truly important in Shooter's Guide to Handgun Marksmanship, a great guide to solid practical pistol marksmanship and gunhandling that covers important fundamentals needed to handle a pistol well.

This book will give you what you need to at least get up to the author's skill level. If you follow this guide you will be good enough to perform competently in organized competition and be measurably better than most military, police and tactically trained gun bearers. Most importantly, it will develop fundamental skills more than sufficiently so that whatever task you intend to pursue, your base of ability will be well developed.

The importance of proper, initial focus is spelled out on page 150.
“Tactics Or Basics?
I have not wanted to delve into the 'tactical' aspects of fighting in this book, preferring, instead, to focus on pure marksmanship. This is the building block that comes before anything else, and it is what I see most missing when I observe others.”

The first and most important step in training is defining how to measure skill, assessing current skill and developing a plan for improvement. Once someone has received instruction, training requires this.

Most firearm and tactical “training” is really instruction, an introduction or overview of concepts with hands-on familiarization. This is useful for anyone new to the concepts or in need of a refresher, but it can't elevate skill levels beyond this. Most people confuse this instruction as training and forever remain at a novice level without even realizing how much more skilled they could become.

Lessler gets this and has entire sections of his book discussing it. For starters, page 148 Performance Standards:

“Completing these drills successfully will put you in a very high percentile of overall handgun competence performance, probably over the ninety-fifth percentile of handgun owners and a little under, or close to, mid-level in practical shooting competition.” Chapter 13 Practice Drills goes into further detail.

Once you've graduated military basic, police academy, civilian tactical class, or any other other form of instruction, your skills will forever stagnate, no matter how much instruction you continue to receive, until you organize training. Have a challenging but realistic and useable standard to pursue and achieve with knowledge of how to get there is critical. This book provides that.

Best current estimates claim 40-45 million Americans own handguns. The biggest practical competition shooting organizations in the United States have combined memberships of around 50,000. Lessler is skilled enough to be above average in this select group. Total number of American gun owners pursuing any form of recognized and organized marksmanship activity (not just handgun) is less than a 250,000. There are perhaps this many people also pursuing formal firearm and/or tactical instruction as well, though most of them will never obtain, or even aspire to, the skill levels of the first group.

If we're incredibly generous we might estimate a million total American gun owners involved in any form of organized firearm activity. That leaves well over 39 million handgun owners desperately in need of what marksmen like Peter Lessler have to say. The gun owning population would be greatly improved if even a few million of these folks read this book and applied it.

Tatyana Hill studied art and design at the University of Syracuse in New York. In 1993 she moved to London where she started an interior design company. A welcome addition to any soapmaking library.

This is a lovely book, with unusual and inspiring modifications to the basic soap recipe. The instructions are concise and well written, the photos throughout are enticing, and weights are given in ounces and grams. Necessary equipment and supplies are pictured and described, which adds much to the appeal of this book. While I would not recommend the addition of excessive botanicals to the soaps, one may want to consider adding GSE, or other preservatives, in proper proportion as needed. I have found adding powered milk and other dry products at trace to be most convenient. Overall a delightful and quality publication.

how to keep the soap balls from turning brown?

This book is what I had hoped for - a book with more advanced soapmaking ideas (i.e. not a beginners book like the majority of soapmaking books) and lovely photos. I do agree with the previous reviewer that the author's toppings could be hard on one's drains - one soap has large chunks of dried seaweed in it. Another has a solid layer of cloves stuck into the top. Another is topped with a layer of rosebuds. Pretty but definitely something you would need to remove before using. I've topped soap with orange slices before so I'm not opposed to the idea - just think that her ideas maybe go farther than I would. My question is how does she make such nice looking soap balls? I've tried rolling freshly made soap in botanicals (dried parsley, dried rose petals, calendula petals) and I've also tried making them with freshly grated rebatched soap. In both cases the botanicals look pretty for a short while then quickly discolor and aren't pretty any longer. Anyone? Also, her goatmilk soap although pretty in the photo (looks like a round of cheese), looks like something I would reject as being lye heavy or cut too late and so dry and crumbly. I worry about including a photo like that since a soap that appears that way should make the soapmaker concerned that the soap may be unsafe.

It's a beautiful book with lots of charming ideas if you area soapmaker. Didn't recomended for bigginers. But very usuful for thoso who know how to do it.
