About the Author
Frederick J Gravetter is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. While teaching at Brockport, he specialized in statistics, research design, and cognitive psychology. Dr. Gravetter received his Bachelor's degree in mathematics from M.I.T. and his Ph.D. in psychology from Duke University. In addition to publishing several research articles, Dr. Gravetter is co-author of the best-selling STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 10th Edition, ESSENTIALS OF STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 9th Edition, and RESEARCH METHODS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, 5th Edition.

Larry B. Wallnau is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. The recipient of grants and awards in both research and teaching, Dr. Wallnau has published numerous research articles primarily on the effect of psychotropic drugs. With Frederick J Gravetter, he has co-authored previous editions of STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, now in its tenth edition, and ESSENTIALS OF STATISTICS FOR THE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES, now in its ninth edition.

Understandable Statistics at Last!

This is the first statistics textbook that I have actually understood and enjoyed, and I have read many of them. The authors take students through the material step by step and do not make assumptions about prior knowledge. The charts and examples are very helpful and clearly presented. As textbooks go, this is the best!

Great Learning Text, Worth Keeping

I got this text for an online class and so it has basically been my sole "teacher" for statistics. Even though it has been a while since I have taken any math at all, Gravetter has made learning straightforward and relatively easy.

Each concept is explained logically and clearly with examples, and to reinforce comprehension there are very good analogies in the text boxes on the side. After explaining each concept there is a step-by-step example, and then practice problems are given in sections throughout the chapter to be sure you are understanding the material. The few times I have not gotten something correct, a quick review has shown me it was my own oversight and not a problem with the way the book explained the material.

There are a couple of editing errors, but nothing too confusing.

I also got a copy of the workbook that goes with the text and for me it has really helped reinforce the material before exams.

I totally recommend this text, and believe if someone wants to learn statistics on their own, it can absolutely be done with this text and not much more (maybe the study guide). There is even a quiz of relevant "prerequisite" math knowledge in one of the appendices. If you get a few problems wrong, the concept is explained in a short review section. Awesome!

It is the only text I plan to keep. It will be a great backup as I learn research.

Wow! Clear, Concise, Excellent Book

Having seriously struggled for the last two years with the statistics side of my Psychology studies, this book has really made things so much clearer. An excellent book for anyone struggling to grasp the basic statistical concepts required in behavioral sciences.

Great lab tool

I hate chemistry, but I love my lab notebook. It is very easy to use; the only complaint I have is that I write somewhat hard, and it bleeds through even when I use the plastic insert. I usually use a second insert to prevent this. Other than that, it's a great tool.

Excellent Refresher/Reference - Not for Beginners

On page 3 the target audience of this book is described by the author as: "This book was written for programmers who have no experience with C# and/or little to no experience with object oriented programming". If this was truly the targeted group, then Mr. Freeman missed the mark. The title of Introducing Visual C# 2010 should have been Visual C#: A refresher + .NET 4.0 Features. The author's knowledge of the subject matter is very deep and his love of the C# language shines through in most chapters. As a reference material or a refresher of the nuances and intricacies of the C# language this book is excellent. For a programmer, who is new to the object oriented model of .NET and C# the book is poorly organized. Chapter 3 lightly skims over the .Net Framework. Chapter 4: "C# Fundamentals and Keyword Reference" is a mix of weak introduction material and a listing of keywords where some of the keywords are given a cursory explanation but the most annoying is the constant reference to future chapters where more detailed discussion can be found (I thought that is what the Table of Contents is for). One will also discover that upon reviewing those "future" chapters, the depth of discussion is shallow and it is irritating when the author references back to chapter 4 as the source of the original introduction of the particular keyword or concept in question. Chapter 5 provides the definition for Numeric and Boolean Types and it is strange that the discussion of the String and Character types are not encountered until Chapter 16. The material in-between is a fairly comprehensive tutorial on the most important components of C# but beginner C# programmers will often scratch their heads trying to understand the new concepts with not very clear and simple examples. Their confusion will be compounded upon reaching Chapter 17, Attributes. The .NET platform provides automatic memory management, known as Garbage Collection. The author makes it clear that in most cases one need not be concerned about how this component works but then proceeds to explain how the Destructor works without giving a clear explanation of when to use it. The beginner C# programmer will be left wondering when told that "Some objects need to perform actions before they can be safely destroyed; the most common examples are where connections to databases and other servers need to be explicitly closed. The actions you take will depend on your object, but whatever you need to do can be included in a destructor". After reading the above statement, the beginner reader will be left wondering what he has just read. The chapters covering the various aspects of Linq are by far the best and Mr. Freeman is second to none when it comes to this subject. As a refresher for one who had already some exposure to Linq, these chapters are excellent but for a beginner C# programmer they will provide additional frustration. In summary, if you are a beginner C# programmer with little or no understanding of the object oriented model then this book is not for you. Mr. Freeman attempted to put down in this book, his wealth of knowledge of the C# language along with the .NET platform but he did not present it for a beginner. I suggest you buy one of the simpler introductory books and then come back to this one and I am sure you will agree with me then that this book is an excellent refresher and reference source. I give it 5 stars as a reference source but only 2 as a beginners' aid.

Great introduction to C# and the .NET APIs

I'm a Senior Developer and I have done some programming in C# but I'm not an expert. I found this book to be a great introduction to C# and the .Net APIs. For some of the .Net APIs there are books on the topic. However when I read areas of the .NET APIs that I haven't used before I found Adam Freeman's explanation was just enough to give me the understanding of what the API can do.

The earlier chapters on the C# language are extensive and would be a great introduction for someone coming from Java or Visual Basic. If someone has no programming experience they would get the information they need to write C# programs. However when they get to the class libraries and the .NET APIs I think they would be lost. If they start with a beginner book on C# to get a more thorough introduction on the language and the class libraries they can then come back to this book and fully appreciate the .Net APIs.

Chapter 24 is about Parallel Programming which I thought was not a topic for an introduction book. When I finished reading the chapter I became fascinated about the possibilities this API could bring. His examples in the chapter are simple enough for a beginner to understand and at the same time wanting me to read more on the topic. This is also an example of the enthusiasm that Adam Freeman brings to the various topics in the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I would definitely recommend this book to someone with some programming experience to get a broad introduction in C# and the .Net APIs.

Great Primer on C Sharp 2010!

Let me start by saying that I am NOT a C Sharp developer. Not YET anyway. I wanted this book because this is an area I want to expand into. It is a BIG book. Over 1200 pages. So initial impression was that it covered a lot of stuff. Further review showed I was right. Very detailed with great explanations. Adam breaks the book up into six parts:

Part 1 - Getting Started
Part 2 - The C# Language
Part 3 - The .NET Class Library
Part 4 - Data & Databases
Part 5 - User Interfaces
Part 6 - Advanced Topics

I have now gone through Parts 1 & 2 (roughly 500 pages) and I have to say I love this book. Adam provides many code examples and breaks them down very patiently; especially appreciated by the slow kids in the class like me! If you are a beginner with C Sharp, this is a must buy. Another thing to note, is Apress will let you pickup an ebook (PDF) copy of the book for just ten dollars. See the last page of the book for details. I love this because I like to load my PDFs up on my iPad so I can take them anywhere. Hauling around a 1200 page book is no fun.

Great book. Highly recommended!

He is editor of Jesus and Philosophy: New Essays (Cambridge University Press, 2009), and co-editor of Divine Hiddenness (Cambridge University Press, 2002) and of The Wisdom of the Christian Faith (Cambridge University Press, 2012). Arlene Wilson's Review Is Misguided

Arlene Wilson gave this book a terrible review and all of her points for doing so are misguided for a few reasons, First, Arlene does not understand that this is not a general survey text for an introduction class in philosophy. This text is specific to epistemology. Secondly, Wilson does not understand that this book is an anthology of papers written by philosophers dating back to the ancients. That being said, this is not an instructional textbook. It is a reader and the authors do a great job of presenting an overview of the major ideas contained in each section. The instruction she seeks is supposed to come from someone trained in philosophy. It is possible to learn from the papers contained in the text, but only under the presupposition that one has already studied somewhat extensively in philosophy; otherwise, confusion, such as that experienced by Wilson is sure to follow.

I am a professor at City College of San Francisco, and I use this text for my class PHIL4: Knowledge because it contains all of the major historical treatises on epistemology and many seminal contemporary works. Furthermore, the book is organized in such a way that there are often main articles and responses to those articles. For example, the Gettier paper on the insufficiency of the JTB account of knowledge includes two enlightening responses. Lastly, all of the papers in the text are fairly non-technical. In other words, one does not need knowledge of advanced predicate calculus to understand the content, so intro students can grasp what's at stake with each topic, with the guidance of an instructor, of course.

Your not alone

Billionaire Zack Hopkins has gone too long to letting vision out. Even though he enjoyed the challenges of the city he needed to go to get to nature. Taking a few friends/associates with him as well. Lena was given the task to be the guide for Zack and his friends. But ran seen something familiar in Zack and finding out he too was a Lion shifter like her yet never having met or know there were others out there. But just a thing are about to progress between the two a fire breaks out and the two are separated. This is an awesome story with excitement and very entertaining to read.

Zachary is a rich guy who is also a shifter. He doesn't know any other shifters and thinks he's alone in the world. When he goes on safari he finds his guide is also a lioness and there is inevitable attraction. This is a short standalone book without cliffhangers!

Good story about lion shifter. I like the more unusual shifters, so it was great to see this dynamic. Especially since a pack is so different than a pride in how it functions.
