Robert Scott is a mediocre guitarist, cyclist, chef, and cross country runner. He's never written for "The New Yorker" or "National Geographic" and doesn't stand a chance of being called up to play third base for the Boston Red Sox. His "Eldarn Sequence" and "Sailor Doyle" novels are available from Gollancz, and he can eat his own weight in New Orleans gumbo. Scott teaches Edgar Poe stories to uninterested high school students and writes poetry that improves proportionately with the number of drinks you've consumed. Finally!! A must read for anyone searching for smart poetry that is relatable!!

This poetry collection is exactly what I have been searching for. I don’t fancy myself to be a one dimensional person, so I've grown tired of the same-old-same-old poetry collection: one focus, one voice, one theme. “3:17 a.m.,” however, is just the opposite of collections of perfunctory poetry. It contains poems that made me cry, laugh, and curse society. Robert Scott has views on life that are fresh and witty; I couldn’t put the book down. This is one collection you’re going to want to buy multiple copies of, so you can keep one by your bedside table, inside your glove compartment, and on top of your desk at work. You’ll want to buy a copy for your best friend, your mom, and your partner so he can wrap it up and give it to you for your birthday. If you’re tired of forced, predictable poetry, then you’ve found the right collection and the right poet. Can’t wait for him to publish his second collection.
